Showing the sequence of how Honey the Great Dane learnt to pick up socks and put them into a laundry basket. Honey knew the “hold” command but had never learnt anything similar to this before so it was interesting to clicker train from scratch. It took six sessions of about 5mins each – real trouble at first as she was just not getting it but then with a bit of advice from dog trainer, Flip Calkoen (www.fliptopdog.co.nz) – we figured out how to break it down into steps she could understand and she learn it quickly after that!

I have a tip for you if Honey gets the sock/toy near the container but drops it reward her anyway and try again. When she fully puts the sock/toy give her a big reward! Otherwise your dog is a genius

awwwww she is adorable!! i often feel like people with houndy or big clumsy dogs never learn about clickers and never teach their dogs anything. For instance, my aunt’s dog beaulah hardly knows sit. and also all the dog trainers have super intelligent dogs like border collies or german shepherds or goldens or labs. but you have a GREAT DANE! and you’re teaching her this! amazing and wonderful!! keep doing what you’re doin!
